Working principle of pre-protection chip

Front-end protection chips typically use internal high-precision voltage detection circuits, current detection circuits, and temperature detection circuits to monitor voltage, current, and temperature parameters in real time. When detected parameters exceed the normal range, the internal control logic of the chip triggers corresponding protection mechanisms, such as circuit disconnection, current limiting, and reduced operating frequency, based on preset protection strategies, to protect the safety of downstream circuits and equipment.

Working principle

Front-end protection chips typically use internal high-precision voltage detection circuits, current detection circuits, and temperature detection circuits to monitor parameters such as voltage, current, and temperature in the circuit in real time. 3 When the detected parameters exceed the normal range, the control logic inside the chip will trigger corresponding protection mechanisms according to the preset protection strategy, such as disconnecting the circuit, limiting the current, or reducing the operating frequency, to protect the safety of the backend circuit and equipment.

Common Types

  • Charging management protection chip For example, the 4054H charging management chip, in addition to having a front-end OVP protection function, also uses an advanced constant current/constant voltage charging algorithm to improve charging efficiency while ensuring charging speed. 1
  • Lithium battery protection IC Such as the Chuangxinwei CM1103 series and CM13xx series, targeting the characteristics of lithium-ion or lithium polymer batteries, provide all-round protection against overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, and short circuits. 3
  • Power management protection chip For example, the NS6316 synchronous buck power management chip integrates multiple protection functions such as input undervoltage/overvoltage, output short circuit, and overheat protection while achieving buck conversion, suitable for various power supply application scenarios.
